FAQs on the first consultation

Here you will find all the answers to your questions on the first consultation so that you master the perfect start of your Fertility Journey.

The costs for a first consultation for a fertility treatment (regardless which fertility expert you see) can be found here. It can be paid in cash or with a debit or credit card. If you're not feeling ready and want to receive more information in advance you can visit one of our monthly virtual fertility webinars. You will get to know our institute and team and listen to a presentation on reasons and treatment options. Of course you can also book an appointment for a no-obligation consultation with our team of doctors.

The first steps until your first appointment at the Kinderwunschzentrum can often be overwhelming - medical findings need to be conducted, all data has to be collected and an appropriate time for the consultation must be found. That's why we established the "Pre-Department" - a special service responsible for your "perfect start".  Our Pre-Department can be contacted via contact form or via telephone at T +43 1 934 69 79.

In general we have a waiting period of 2-4 weeks. Most patients use this time to conduct all the missing medical findings and examinations. Without these documents our doctors can't plan your treatment - you won't believe how time flies until the first consultation while collecting all the missing findings.
You already have all the preliminary examinations? - in that case the next appointment available is yours.

If you do not wish to make any findings at the beginning and would only like to have a non-binding consultation with our team of doctors, we will of course be happy to offer you this with a short waiting period.

In order to discuss your situation and plan the treatment we need a few medical test results which give us information on your personal anamnesis. At first sight it may seem a lot, but you will have all the necessary results after two appointments (one blood test at the laboratory and one appointment with your gynaecologist for the smear tests). You will receive all the necessary details and a checklist on your preliminary examinations from our Pre-Department team.

For the female partner: All blood tests can be done in every laboratory as well as all locations of our cooperating laboratory the "Ihr Labor" without appointment. The smear tests (cervical bacterial culture including chlamydia) are conducted by your gynaecologist.

For the male partner: All blood tests can be done in every laboratory as well as all locations of our cooperating laboratory the "Ihr Labor" without appointment. The semen analysis can be conducted by your urologist, in many laboratories with an appointment or directly at the Kinderwunschzentrum (€ 127.-).

If you do not wish to make any findings at the beginning and would only like to have a non-binding consultation with our team of doctors, we will of course be happy to offer you this with a short waiting period.

For an exact diagnosis and therapy planning, all medical findings are required and partly even prescribed by law. For your better understanding, we will gladly explain to you why we need which findings:

Hormonal assay: This is the most important examination and helps assess female fertility. Please keep in mind that for a correct evaluation the test has to be conducted between the 1st and 4th day of your cycle (1st day = 1st day of the bleeding).

APC-resistance: In order to detect a possible increased risk of a thrombosis during hormonal stimulation we need this specific coagulation parameter.

Vitamin D, Rubella and chickenpox antibodies: For us it is not only important that you become pregnant - but also that your pregnancy is uncomplicated and that there do not occur any problems until birth. That is why we test these important values befor starting your treatment.

Smear tests: Symptom-free vaginal infections (eg. chlamydia) can influence fertility and in the worst case prevent a pregnancy.

Spermiogram: This is the most important examination and helps assess male fertility as well as the semen quality.
