Sperm cell, Egg cell and Embryo Freezing

If need be, sperm cells, egg cells and embryos can be cryopreserved and used at a later time for a fertility treatment.

In acute cases, such as a chemo or radiation therapy, which is scheduled to begin very soon, we ask you to contact us by telephone without delay.
We would be happy to support you by telephone under T +43 1 934 69 79. Even if you find yourself in a very stressful situation at the moment, it is still important not to lose any time.

Reasons for sperm cryopreservation

  • if chemotherapy or radiation therapy is planned
  • Testicular disease
  • surgeries
  • gender reassignment
  • diseases which can affect fertility

INFORMATION ON CRYOPRESERVATION OF SPERM CELLS

Legal requirements
There must be a medical reason (see above) for cryopreservation, so "social freezing" is unfortunately not possible. Another prerequisite for storing sperm cells is a negative test result for some infection parameters (e.g. HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, ...).

Appointment
The sperm delivery for cryopreservation is possible with an appointment Mon-Fri 8 - 9 am and 12 - 1 pm. (emergency appointments outside of the specified times by arrangement). Please make an appointment by phone +43 1 934 69 79 or by email office@kinderwunschzentrum.at

DOCUMENTS FOR THE FIRST APPOINTMENT

Costs
All costs for the cryopreservation and storage of sperm cells can be found in the information sheet above.

Possible Reasons for egg cell cryopreservation

  • with planned chemotherapy or radiotherapy
  • low ovarian reserve
  • severe endometriosis
  • planned gender reassignment in the case of transidentity
  • diseases or operations that can affect fertility (e.g. certain autoimmune diseases)

Legal requirements
Eggs may be frozen “if a physical condition or its [...] treatment poses a serious risk that pregnancy can no longer be achieved through sexual intercourse.” (Excerpt from the Reproductive Medicine Act)
This means that there must be a medical reason for cryopreservation (see above); “social freezing” is therefore forbidden in Austria. The list of possible reasons is always incomplete, as we can check the individual situation for each request and have specialist reports drawn up if necessary.

Appointment
If there is a medical reason, the first important step is a first consultation to discuss your personal situation and medical findings. The appointment costs € 78.-. An appointment can be made on +43 1 934 69 79 or by email start@kinderwunschzentrum.at.

Costs
The costs of cryopreservation are very dependent on the medication and the number of egg cells obtained. Therefore, you will receive an individually prepared cost plan as part of the first consultation. As a guideline, the costs for stimulation, egg cell retrieval under sedoanalgesia and cryopreservation (excluding medication costs) are approximately € 3.500. Depending on the number of egg cells that can be retrieved per cycle, several treatment cycles may be necessary. An overview of the costs can be found here.
