Cycle monitoring & timed intercourse
Sometimes the wish for a child is bound to fail just because of the wrong timing. This is why it is very important to determine the right moment for fertilization.
The fertile days in the menstrual cycle are around ovulation, which is about 14 days after the first day of the last period. In order to achieve pregnancy, sperm cells need to get into the fallopian tubes around the time of ovulation. The sperm cells can survive in the woman's uterus for two to five days, but the egg cell can only be fertilized for approximately 24 hours after ovulation. After that no fertilization is possible.
Therefore it is important to determine the right time for fertilisation to optimise the chances of a "natural" pregnancy through sexual intercourse. This treatment is called cycle monitoring and timed intercourse.

In the course of cycle monitoring we control the growth of the follicles as well as the development of the endometrium. This ultrasound examination is usually performed between the 9th and 11th day of the menstrual cycle. During this time we can perfectly see if a follicle has built and also predict the perfect day for the timed intercourse.
