Information on your cryo depot

Transfer is only possible until 31st of October 2020!

Do you still have egg cells, sperm cells or embryos stored at our old location in the Goldenes Kreuz private hospital? We will inform you about the transfer to our new location (attention: only possible until October 31, 2020) or further storage in the Goldenes Kreuz.

Process of a transfer

Step 1:

All contracts for the transfer are available for download. Click on the respective green button to open the contract.

Which contract do I have to choose?
EGG CELLS
You have stored unfertilized egg cells (e.g. before chemotherapy, to prevent fertility, in the event of an abortion after a puncture).
EMBRYOS
You have stored surplus embryos (= fertilized egg cells) after an IVF attempt.
SPERM CELLS / TESE SAMPLES
You have stored sperm cells (e.g. before chemotherapy / surgery / vasectomy / hormone therapy, as a back-up for a treatment) or TESE samples.

Step 2:

Please fill out the relevant contract in full and send it signed by post (original) until the 31st of October 2020 to the following address:

Kinderwunschzentrum an der Wien
Gumpendorfer Straße 11-13/18
1060 Wien

Step 3:

As soon as we have received the original signed contract from you by post, it will take approx. 1-2 weeks for the samples to be transferred to our new location. After the transfer has been completed, you will receive a confirmation email from our laboratory team.

FAQs on the transfer of your cryo depot

The transfer to our new location (Kinderwunschzentrum an der Wien, Gumpendorfer Straße 11-13/18, 1060 Vienna) and the first year of storage are free of charge.

If you want to transfer your cells at a later date, costs may apply.

The samples are and will remain stored in the Goldenes Kreuz. A new team will be responsible for the safekeeping of your samples in the future. However, at the moment we do not know who will take over the premises and thus the cryo depots.

For more information, please contact the Goldenes Kreuz administration directly at:kinderwunsch@goldenes-kreuz.at

Yes of course. Transfer at a later point in time is also possible. However, it is currently easier because we have access to both tissue banks and there are fewer bureaucratic hurdles. In addition, there are no costs for a transfer if it is carried out now.

NO, of course not. The samples are safely stored. We are only currently waiving a storage fee because legal issues with the Goldenes Kreuz are still ongoing. This is also the reason why you have not yet received an invoice for the annual storage fee.

Attention: According to the Reproductive Medicine Act, cryopreserved embryos must be destroyed after a period of 10 years.

The samples are transferred in a special transport container by our trained embryologists, transported by hand and then stored again at our new location. The samples are not sent with a transport service and are therefore constantly monitored.

You can be assured that our experienced embryologists are familiar with handling cryopreserved samples and liquid nitrogen, thereby ensuring that your samples are safely transferred to our new location. The samples are not sent with a transport service and are therefore constantly monitored.

However, we must - also for legal reasons - inform you about the possible, albeit very small and unlikely, residual risks of a transfer. Possible risks are:

  • Material or transport damage, resulting in leakage of the nitrogen container
  • Destruction of the sample
  • Obscuration of the labeling, which means that we can no longer clearly identify the sample

As soon as we have received the original signed contract from you by post, it will take approx. 1-2 weeks for the samples to be transferred.

After the transfer has been completed, you will receive a confirmation email from our laboratory team.

Yes, if you have stored different types of cells (egg cell depot, sperm cell depot, embryo depot) with us. In this case, you must send all relevant contracts by post. In this case, the annual costs for the storage fee per cell depot have to be paid.

No, if you have stored several depots of one cell type (e.g. only egg cell depots or only sperm cell depots or only embryo depots) with us. In this case, your cryo depots will be merged into one depot in the future. This is an advantage for you, as only one annual storage fee will be charged in the future.
